About Us

Sevabharathi® Kanyadi was conceptualized and started its community activities in the year 2004 and later registered in the year 2012 under the Trust Act. Sevabharathi was founded with the avowed objective of extending social service to the deserved and marginalized segment of the population of Belthangady Taluk, a remote taluk in Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka State.

We are working in the areas of health, women empowerment, blood donation, and rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury. “Sevabharathi” is actively engaged in social work and community services during the last 16 years in the field of Health, Education, Agriculture and Empowerment of rural women. With a vision to contribute to the disability sector, K Vinayaka Rao launched the 'Sevadhama' project in 2018 – the fourth unique center in Karnataka dedicated to the rehabilitation of individuals with spinal cord injuries. Our community service activities have received wider acceptance and are appreciated by the people at large.

"Sevadhama", Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Rehabilitation Centre, a unit of Sevabharathi, at Sauthadka was launched on 16th September 2018, with the technical support and initial financial support of APD Bangalore (The Association of People with Disability, India). Sevadhama is the 4th unique center in Karnataka working towards rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injury. Sri Sauthadka Maha Ganapathy Seva Trust has provided free accommodation for 3 years which can accommodate 10 persons at a time and we are able to extend our service to about 40 persons per year. We have 3 office staff and 5 staff in-house to provide rehabilitation services.

Spinal cord injury is an irreversible injury. A person affected with injury will suffer life long and become bedridden and dependent on his family members without having knowledge of what to do after spinal injury. Loss of income, medical bills, rehabilitation, and the costs of daily care leave many spinal cord injury survivors in dire financial straits.

We have identified about 333 persons with spinal cord injury (PWSCI), most of them are farm workers who are presently bedridden and are looking for rehabilitation from charity organizations. We have already rehabilitated more than 85 PWSCI. SCI rehabilitation is a long process that requires patience and motivation of patients and their family members. Sevadhama extends three months of rehabilitation services free of cost except for food charges, empowers them with life skills, and enables them to lead a life with dignity and self-help. Persons with Spinal Cord Injuries are rehabilitated by providing counseling, physiotherapy, paramedical support, training in independent living skills, aids and appliances, environmental adaptations, and aids in accessing social security benefits through a structured approach among others.

This is an intensive minimum of 12 weeks of residential training by providing Morning Breakfast, Lunch, Evening snacks, and Dinner. Where PWSCI learn to wash their clothes, cook food, take care of their daily routine transfer from wheelchair to bed, etc. This helps them rebuild their social skills. We also provide them mobility accessories like wheelchairs, calipers free of cost, workplace accessibility, home accessibility toilet facilities, etc at a subsidized rate to lead a better and self-reliant life.

As a private, non-profit rehabilitation service provider, Sevadhama relies on

donations to maintain its excellence in helping Spinal Cord Injured to achieve the best possible outcomes. Charitable gifts are directed to rehabilitation activities or other specific needs at a donor’s direction. The donations to the Trust are eligible for tax concessions under Sec 80 G. Your generous donation will enable us to serve patients regardless of their financial situation and provide service to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it.
